Long Reach tells another story: The human prankster called Demontricker has met his
twin and his match in the Wolfrider chief to be Mantricker. The two maintain a grudging
but respectful alliance for their tribesññthe elves will keep to their woods and
the humans will hunt only on the grasslands. But nature, and a deep summer drought,
force other plans. Human hunters invade the forest in search of game. Neither Demontricker
nor Mantricker want war but what to do? The two jokes put heads together. The humans
believe the drought is the punishment of Gotara for letting the elves live, so what
better way to disabuse them of that notion than to turn Mantricker into Gotara's
own messenger? And the message that he delivers is quite enlightening as well as
effective! So for a little while, Mantricker becomes a god and the woods are again
safe for the Wolfriders. The chiefling has nothing more to worry about from the humansññor
so the thinks...He also stops one human from burning the forest. Long Reach finishes
the story and tells the others to get a story from Pike (about Mantricker not wanting
love to find him even though it did). |
