Tyso tells Jethel he once stole a gold egg from a tower and it turned out the place was enchanted. It is a dragon's cave. The males are crawling on the mountain, trying to play it safe when Purebreeze gets up and makes noise. Falcon stands up, "Blast, I hate when she gets like this." Calling them chicken hearts, she goes into the cave. Falcon tells the boys that if there is a problem she will scream, she always does and "...I'll get the blame for it." Falcon feels they have been in this idiot desert too long and were lucky to have chanced upon that merchant with his skimmer ship. Once they get his egg, he will take them out to the rim of the desert. Below the desert sand, about five naked elf boys (some with short dark hair, some with long dark hair, and two with blond or light brown hair) put sand on a master's body. The salt has many restorative properties, he's spent his lifetime studying such thing: herbs, ointments, grains of sand that will etch into his pores and cause them to sweat, his complexion will be that of alabaster. He yells at his boys to stop looking at him and get to the ship. This is the one whose wants the others to get his egg. Broth from the dragon egg will fetch him millions. Falcon tells Kim that Purebreeze is nuts. He wants to brain her. Purebreeze finds the egg hatched and fights the monster with her torch. She tells it that it wins and runs. Tyso tells them that Purebreeze's scream is just her trying to scare them. Jethel tells him, "She did it!" What looks like a Tyrannosaur is picking her up. The boys all scream, "A dragon!" It pops out of the cave. Purebreeze tells Falcon to get back. Falcon doesn't think running would be a good idea. The creature is stuck in the cave so they attack with spears, repeating, "Die, monster, die!" The merchant comes to them, somewhat upset they killed it. Maybe he can make money selling the body parts. The merchant tells them they should get out of here. Purebreeze asks why. The baby dragon is dead but the adult will be back and will be very, very angry.

Backup story: "Foxfire" part 1.

Backup story first page Summer time in Skillyhope, a fishing village, the town sits on conjunctions of many moonroads and a magnet for all manner of faerie. The paperboy is a were–fox. His haircut is uniquely fox–like and he wears no shirt. Someone is conjuring up a knife of steel. Foxfire rollerblades with a newspaper bag strapped on his left shoulder. Koogie, his squirrel pal, is on his left shoulder, too! A fisherman has hired Selkie lads and it has increased his catch threefold. Fox tells the two boys, shirtless also and in bathing suits, that they have really gone human. The man tells him to come back for dinner. Foxfire will try. Captain Jack is the only human thus far to be a team with Selkies. Foxy hopes there will be more. Fox says, "Oh shi..boneheads at 3 o'clock." Two boys, one with a baseball hat on backwards and another with a baseball hat or cap block him. They call him a nerd on wheels but he tells them, "Beats being shit on a stick." One grabs him behind the arm in a shoulder lock. A man with a water hose shoots water at the boys, letting Foxfire go. He tells the kids he will take a strip off their hides if he sees them bullying other kids again. He tells the two boys (Foxfire and the one who grabbed him) to shake hands and make up. The boy is angry but Foxfire sticks his tongue out at him and crosses his own eyes. Mr. C tells Foxfire he is the best newsboy they ever had. Foxy thanks him and leaves. Foxy is glad Mr. C pounced on his own son, he wasn't in the mood to fight that turdhead today. Foxfire has a new customer and then will go to the library to check out some video tapes. The Old Fergerson Place––not even psychically dense humans fail to feel the evil surrounding the house. A freckled faced boy with a cap on grabs him––this boy was with Mr. C's son before. He dares Foxfire to put the newspaper into an old man's hand. Foxfire sees a hideous fish faced, piranha like fanged monster that is behind the old man's image. The boy calls Foxy chicken but he cannot see that the old man is really the monster! The boy goes up to the man and wants to shake his hand, telling him his name is Porkchop. The man smiles, "How delicious." He becomes a monster and grabs Porkchop, Foxy seeing the old man as the monster! Foxfire chops at it with his knife and its neck bleeds. Losing his hat, Porkchop tells Foxfire he killed an old man. Three other men come running, telling each other that the boys killed Wormy. While Porkchop worries that the men are gonna tell his parents, Foxy pulls him, telling him they are going to kill him. They run, for the three men are also monsters! Porkchop can't go any further and tells Foxfire this is all his fault–––he didn't do anything. Foxy asks Koogie, a squirrel but actually a fairy with pointed ears and ear rings as well as knife holding his thick white or blond ponytail up in place to kick "his ass into faerie" which makes Porkchop see into the faerie dimension–––letting him see the men as the monsters. Touching Porkchop's nose, Koogie tells him, "Now rump roast, look at those so called men." Porkchop sees that they are monsters and faints. Koogie sees the monsters coming at them, "Oh shit." Foxfire says, "That's about it, Koog.
